Port of Singapore is again top maritime city of the world, says DNV

THE Port of Singapore hit a record high container throughput of 37.5 million TEU, retaining its title as the top Leading Maritime City of the World for the fifth consecutive year, according to the Norwegian classification society, DNV, and Norwegian consultancy, Menon Economics AS.

Apart from a record high throughput, the port also handled 599.0 million tonnes of cargo in 2021 whilst vessel arrival reached 2.81 billion gross tonnages (GT), and the total tonnage of ships under the Singapore flag stood at 92.3 million GT, reports Singapore Business.

Meanwhile, total bunker sales volume reached 50.04 million tonnes in 2021, of which 49.99 million tonnes were conventional bunkers sales and 0.05 million tonnes were LNG[2] bunker sales. This marks only the second time that bunker sales crossed 50 million tonnes.

Minister for Transport and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, S Iswaran, said Singapore will focus on four thrust - resilience, digitalisation, decarbonisation and talent - to allow Singapore's maritime industry to emerge even stronger.
